Young Academy Manifesto Recommends Dutch Institutions Support JASP

The Dutch `Young Academy‘ is a prestigious scientific organisation whose goals are outlined on their website:

The Young Academy is committed to securing the future of science and scholarship. It does this by communicating the value of research and by helping to improve the science system. It is a platform of fifty inspired academics who conduct research, advise, share knowledge and bring people together, and who do all this while taking a special interest in young scientists and scholars.

Recently, the Young Academy completed an important and timely report: “In Control: A Manifesto for a Responsible Digital Future in Higher Education“. The Young Academy argues that

Higher education institutions are becoming increasingly dependent on large commercial tech companies for their IT needs. This growing reliance risks undermining their autonomy and academic freedom. The Young Academy therefore calls for a more responsible and deliberate approach to the use of technology in higher education.

The reason why we highlight this report here is because it explicitly mentions JASP! Even better, they argue that the Dutch educational community should invest in JASP. Check this out — on page 13/14 under the heading “Invest”:

We further call upon universities to foster and support spin-off initiatives to ensure that solutions are developed for and by the community. They should support and invest in Dutch and international initiatives that create or re-use solutions for the educational community. Very successful examples include eduroam, SURFconext, Zotero, JASP and ORCID, which have been made by and for the education community and are widely adopted, open and secure. Innovative services that safeguard the academic environment in the Netherlands and abroad cannot be created without investment by our institutions! (italics added for emphasis)

Hear hear! We are happy and proud to see JASP mentioned in this list.
